BASTARD GEORGES AND THE FUNERAL PATRIOTS ORCHESTRA
During my residency in Budapest, I worked with the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and their lions sculpted by János Marschalkö. The legend, devoid of any factual basis, says the lions are tongueless. This omission caused so much mocking that the sculptor threw himself from the bridge during the unveiling. Despite my research and my questions to tourists, opinions differ. I would also create sculpted prosthetics in wood inspired from visual elements found or reclaimed through the city during my stay.
Bastard Georges is, on one hand, the fake collection written by victory. As well as a reasoned space where codes are flipped, allowing interrogations about its own story through its nation's one. During my walks and discussions, I had the chance to discover hungarian culture, generated by this History which immediately confronted mine, the one I'v been given. Thus, I created a register of objects, recounting this antagonism as I collected during my observations on folklore, memory and territory, the marks of a powerful patriotism and the omnipresence of funerary rites.
